A strategy that I have been using, and many other people seem to use, is searching for people will common interests and then following them. If they don’t follow me back within a few days or so I will unfollow them. Websites like Huitter will bulk unfollow everybody that is not following you in return. This service is very helpful for cleaning up your following list.
Since Twitter has a 2000 person following limit, you don’t have much room to follow random people who will not follow you back.
Many peolpe have considered running a contest, including me, to get more followers on Twitter but it seems that the only contests which really attract followers are contests for plamsa TV’s and computer.
Currently, I don’t think an increase in followers is worth the price of giving away a plasma TV.
I’ve considered listing my username in some Twitter directories but that doesn’t seem like it would help.
There are many websites out there which state they can help you get more followers but from what I’ve seen, it appears that these sites only help the top users on that site and won’t help you out very much
I will continue to try and get more followers on Twitter by finding people with common interests…but also, I will continue to search for new ways to get followers.
