Write about topics you are passionate about. When you write about a subject you truly are knowledgeable about then your article or book will have valuable information to share with the rest of us.
Make sure your technical skills are strong. You want every article to be free from typos and grammatical errors. You should have no fragments, use proper comma placement, and etc. Have someone, who is good at proofreading or a teacher, read a few of your articles to help clear up any mistakes.
Are your articles too long? How about too short? If you don’t go into enough detail in your writing then your article or book will leave the reader wanting more. If your writing is too long, you will bore your reader and lose their attention quickly. Articles should be around 400-600 words. Informative books should be around 200-250 pages. Novels can be longer. Chapters should be short in length, to leave the reader excited when they knock out 5 chapters in an hour.
You should do a lot of reading as well as a lot of writing. Reading can expand your vocabulary and make you a better writer.
Start writing a lot of material. Not every article or book is going to be a masterpiece. Eventually one of your books or articles will get noticed and the money will start coming in. Many writers have to write a lot of books before one will actually become mildly successful. You have to be dedicated to writing to be a good author.
Most importantly, you should set goals. Set a goal to have a book finished in 3 months or 6 months. Not only set a goal but set a schedule to achieve that goal. Try to write one page a day or one article a day. If you are consistent and stick with a schedule, you will accomplish your goals.
To be a good author online, write in a style which is targeted towards your primary readers.
A good author always proofreads every article or book. Spellchecker doesn’t fix everything.
