Copyrighting a Book

( 1 Vote )

Copyrighting a book is faily easy but may be unnecessary.

A United States citizen should register their book with the US Copyright Office. Visit copyright.gov for more information. Registering your copyright with the US Copyright Office can help you sue for more damages in court, if an infringement occurs.

To register you book inside the US, fill out Form TX or Short Form TX and submit it with a copy of your work and the registration fee to the US Copyright Office. You can obtain these forms from copyright.gov/forms/. In about 4 months you will receive a certificate of registration.

To register your book outside of the US, contact a special service such as UKCS. They will take care of your book and are usually faster than the US registration.

Visit http://www.copyrightservice.co.uk/services/ for more information.

Make a copy of all the forms you submit to keep for your own records.

Your publisher may help you with some of this process.
