Wine and Food Pairings

( 1 Vote )

Wine can help make your meal more enjoyable if you match up the right wine with the right food. Follow these steps to learn how to choose wine and food pairings.

When choosing a wine to go with your meals, you have to consider many choices. Should you choose a red wine, white wine, heavy or light wine, intense wine, or a wine with a lot of acidity?

A general guideline between red wine and white wine is usually followed. With beef, you should serve red wine. Poultry and fish are usually complimented by a white wine. Heavy pastas usually go well with red wine.

Serve your hearty wines with hearty food and your light wine with lighter food. Heavier wines include port, Muscat, pinot noir, and cabernet. Some lighter wines are brut, extra dry, and fume blanc.

If the meal consists of foods high in acidity, such as lemon, then match it with a higher acidity wine such as pinot noir.

Wines can be spicy or mild. Spicier foods can go well with spicier wines. A good spiced wine would be Riesling.

To choose wine and food pairings, you must analyze the meal and then choose a wine to match.

Ask a host what meal they are preparing and bring a wine to match.

If you find a wine you love, then personal taste should always be the number one factor when choosing a wine for yourself.

Choosing a wine can be tough but not properly storing the wine can ruin it.
