Choosing a Wine

( 1 Vote )

When choosing a wine it seems like you have hundreds of options at the store. Follow these steps to learn the best wine for your desired taste.

First you must decide on whether you want a red wine, white wine, or a sparkling wine (champagne). Red wine is usually served with red meat and pasta. White wine is typically served with chicken and fish.

Serve your hearty wines with hearty food and your light wine with lighter food. Heavier wines include port, Muscat, pinot noir, and cabernet. Some lighter wines are brut, extra dry, and fume blanc.

Choose between sweet and dry wines. Some common sweet wines are Riesling, Muscat, and port. Dry wines would include brut, merlot, and cabernet.

When choosing a red wine, you should opt for a wine which is aged. Typically, most red wines benefit from a little aging. A red wine should be at least 2 years old.

When choosing a white wine, they are typically ready to drink and do not need to be aged.  When getting a wine, you get what you pay for.

More expensive wines will taste better, because not all grapes are created equal and some methods of making wine are more costly.

Also, the more rare the wine, the costlier it will be. When drinking wine by itself, you should choose a medium priced Merlot or Pinot Noirs. Some cabernets can also be a good wine to drink by itself.

To choose the best wine for yourself or an occasion, try to follow the guidelines above; but if you find a wine you love, then drink it!

Choose a different wine every time you go to the store and do some research about it. Pay attention when you drink it. By doing this, you can start develop a sophisticated palate.

Choosing a wine can be tough but not properly storing the wine can ruin it.
